Working together for climate, nature and our local communities

MAC-CAN brings people, groups and ideas together to support practical local action that protects and improves our environment through education, collaboration and community projects.

Supporting climate action across the Machars & Cree Valley since 2020

Four principles underpin our activity:

We love to share information and stories about activities happening in and around the area, promoting those organisations and events that best serve our community in tackling different aspects of the climate and ecological crises.

We actively build our network with many organisations locally and beyond, to share learning and grow ideas. We see ourselves as an action-focused ‘work net’, collaborating in events with organisations throughout the DG8 area of Galloway.

We support our members with advice, information, equipment, and thrifty funding so that they can organise and run activities that matter to them and fit with our goals. From clothes swaps, apple days, litter picks and the no-dig Croft and workshop in Whithorn.

Through our meetings, practical activities, social events, and social media, we celebrate the achievements of our members and local community in their work towards resilience and flourishing, working together to make a positive difference.

Already involved in something locally or starting something new?

MAC-CAN supports existing projects and helps people develop new ideas that benefit climate, biodiversity and the local community.
